In DDO it seemed commonly accepted that a healer would be packing a bag full of wands and scrolls just to fulfill the basic ability to do their job. That doesn't sit well with me, I despise mandatory consumables. Has anything been done to tinker with this balance, or are healers still expected to shell out their own cash to be able to heal a group?
First: There is a DDO thread. Two, in fact, one for the GITP clan. Second: From my experience, it's entirely dependent on the group. Low levels, it's not an issue. At all. Waterworks, maybe. But there's loads of shrines there and if you have a couple of tanks you should be OK. Especially if you have a lot of Turn Undead uses. Basically: "My turn undead can now heal you.
With a high CL and good chance of a crit heal, I can heal a group to full very, very easily. Of course, you get a stupid group who won't stick around for positive energy bursts, they'll burn through your SP faster.
Then again, from my experience this is limited to maybe one person out of five others. If you want to stick with your existing guild I totally get that, but if there's not much going on there, and you want to switch servers, you're more than welcome! That said, I think that if you do want to switch, starting fresh on Sarlona might be the more effective route to go - unless you've got some truly rare drops on your barbarian, it should all be relatively easy to re-acquire.
And server transfers are pricey. Tanka We See You Staff member. RPGnet Member. Presuming the names are not in use on Sarlona, using them shouldn't be an issue. No idea what they'd do now if they do another round of merges. I believe they've basically stated that future server merges won't really be a thing, if only because the free DDO points per server system means that would kinda be a massive penalty to the game's free-to-play friendliness.

I recently unlocked drow, and I'm willing to spend to unlock Artificer, so I'm thinking about creating a drow artificer as a second character. Both a friend of mine and my wife have thought about trying out the game, so this character would be designed for a 2 or 3 person group. I'm leaning towards heavy use of rune arms, and a maxed out intelligence for lots of skills which I haven't had on my paladin.
I'd also like the inquisitive ability to passively search. Are there any good guides out there to reference? I'm not really sure about build guides as such; there's a section on the official forums dedicated to build discussions, but things tend to vary a lot over time as balance changes go through.
And also, a lot of the official forum community tends to be focused on, like, high-reaper, high-reincarnation stuff. I've played quite a bit of artificer, so I can give some advice.
While the Inquisitive tree is useful, I'd say that if you want it for that, it would be better to wait until you can unlock it manually which is much easier than with other things, like Artificer - especially right now, with Sharn being free access.
I think you'd be much better off going for Harper Agent where you can get your Int modifier to hit and damage with your weapon attacks. At low levels they're honestly kinda underwhelming and they stay that way for a while. At high levels they're bonkers good. Please enable cookies to ensure the proper experience.
