Foot path. Forested dunes, Lake Michigan. Nearest City or Town. Two things to know before visiting Fishermans Island State Park; Michigans state stone is not really a stone and Fishermans Island isnt really an island. Peaberry Ann Arbor, MI 6 contributions. We've come here for the last two years and plan on making it an every summer tradition.

It's so quiet and the sites are nice and spread out. I recommend the south campground because the beach is sandier and the sites are more private and there's no view of the cement factory from the beach on that end. Also, to get any supplies at all food, wood, etc , there is a small town about 2 miles down the road to get to a grocery store and semi civilization. Also, keep all food in your car, so racoons don't get into your stuff, though this doesn't entirely deter them from patrolling your campsite in the middle of the night.

So once your in your tent for the night, stay there till daylight! That being said, my boyfriend and I loved the quite backwoods feel of the whole place. We stayed during the week and the place didn't start filling up till near the weekend when we were leaving. Once we figured out how to start a fire it was great to just sit there and listen to the woods and the waves of the lake. There were a lot of mosquitoes but the woodsmoke from the fire cleared them from our site.

This place is quiet and great for couples and people not afraid to get a little dirty or squeamish about the woods. We actually saw quite a few families with small children, so I figured its doable if you prepare! This campground has 2 great things. But some on the inner loop are wet and low so during rain if you are in a tent you will get wet. This campground need a shower and flush toilets. But most of all someone needs to spend a few days with Roundup kill lots and I mean lots of poison ivy.

Chris B Michigan contributions. We love fishermans Island and go there every year, I was wondering if you have found any other campgrounds like fishermans island?

Thanks for your time. It is at the western end of the UP. Lew Charlotte, NC 56 contributions. Most states include entrance fees with the camping reservations. Michigan does not. That has to be purchased separately. Can you easily access beach from either??

South also has a stream running into Lake Michigan and has a better view of sunsets. A lot of deer and an occasional bear visit the wild apple trees at old homestead sites in the woods near the south end. The beach is easily accessible from anywhere, and bring a fish pole to go out on the island and fish for smallmouth bass. Dee S Michigan 28 contributions. Where is the closest sanitation station? We are taking a small self contained travel trailer. I don't think there is one at the park. There is one at the Emmet county fairgrounds, then another just north of Charlevoix according to google at Uhricks, then another at Charlevoix Campground a little east of the park.

I've only used the one at the Emmet County fairgrounds when we were there. Not the other two. The fairgrounds does have water nearby as well. Campsites must be occupied each night.

Two vehicles allowed per campsite. Visitors must leave by 10pm. Fireworks are not permitted. DO NOT swim near or jump off break walls or navigational channel walls. Always pay attention to changing conditions and the beach flag warning system found in designated buoyed swim areas. Before heading out, visit Michigan. Record-high water levels are causing increased river flows, submerged docks and piers, swimming and boating hazards, and other concerns.

Learn more about the effects of high water and how to stay safe at Michigan. Purchase only certified heat-treated firewood at the park or nearby vendors. Campfires are permitted only in designated fire rings. Never leave a campfire unattended. Visit Goods4Mi.
