Step 1: Place your speakers in the desired location and plug them into the wall outlet. Step 2: Grab your AirPort Express and find a good spot for it. Step 3: Hold down the Reset button on the back of the AirPort Express — you may wish to use the end of a pen or paperclip for this process. Step 4: While pressing the reset button, plug the AirPort Express into the wall.
Step 5: Continue to hold the reset button until the light on the front of the unit flashes green four times, then let go. Step 6: After about 45 seconds, the device will have reset itself and will be ready for setup. The light on the front should flash amber at this time. While the Express can be set up in a variety of different configurations, including to extend your existing network, this guide will focus on setting the Express up only for receiving AirPlay broadcasts.
Step 3: Confirm you are connected to your existing Wi-Fi network, denoted by a checkmark at the top of the screen next to your network name. Instead, change it to the location of your speakers, such as Den Speakers or Bedroom Speakers. Start by making sure that your speakers are powered on and turn up the volume to a medium level.
If needed, you can manually change the volume of the speakers later. To play audio to your speakers, on your iPhone or iPad, open Control Center , then hold down the Now Playing widget, tap the AirPlay Audio icon, and choose your new speakers.
Are you having trouble getting everything to work? Here are some of the most common problems you might experience when setting up your Apple AirPort Express as an AirPlay audio receiver and how to fix them.
Call me at I come direct to you. Not an L. I was told by a guy at the Apple store that If I was to by a Airport express that I could set up a dedicated network and attach all the speakers in the RV that way.
I have a play bar now but Sonos tells me that I must have internet in order to set it up. Then I saw the Sonos Boost and after talking to the guy at Apple it seems that even without internet service that it should not stop me from setting up a network only to control or allow the Sonos speakers to work on. Does that make any sense? Dedicated Network only to allow Sonos to work on. TV, Stereo receiver and 6 speakers is the idea.
Any input would be appreciated! I had this setup and it worked, but since some days I am not able to watch a movie on my ipad and send the sound to my airplay speakers. Any ideas? Hi Timo — Make sure your iPad is updated. You may need factory reset your Airport and set it up again if the problem persists.
You can find info on this on the web. So here is a twisted question. I love the Amazon Echo. I have found instructions online to manually add a line level mini pin output jack. But before I disassemble my Echo and the Echo already uses Wifi, can you think of another way to stream the same music to other wifi speaker? Good luck. My advice is to buy the router at a place where you can return it. Your email address will not be published. As 9to5Mac and MacRumors report, a new firmware update adds AirPlay 2 to the venerable Wi-Fi router, effectively allowing you to add an additional wireless speaker capable of multiroom audio to your house, just by downloading the update and plugging a wired speaker into the AirPort Express's AUX jack, and then beaming sound from your Apple laptop, tablet or phone.
Plus, the original AirPlay didn't support Sonos-esque beaming of audio to multiple speakers at the same time. I don't know if I'd have hooked up an AirPort Express as my one-and-only AirPlay speaker, but it's way easier to justify as part of a complete home setup.
